Gli Extra presenta una collezione di dipinti raccolta da Isabelle Russo nell'arco di vent'anni, in collaborazione con le associazioni ATB di Torino/Rivarts di Parigi/e Balason di Parigi. Gli artisti presentati provengono da paesi dove le condizioni di vita e il contesto politico erano, e talvolta lo sono ancora, molto difficili: guerra/dittatura/terrorismo civile o militare. Sono stati sostenuti per consentire ad alcuni di rimanere nel loro paese nonostante il contesto, ad altri di sviluppare la propria vita in esilio. Cosa accomuna questi artisti dalle espressioni così diverse, al di là delle loro origini territoriali “extra” europee?
Ognuno di loro ha espresso lo stesso desiderio: che la loro creazione non venga vista secondo i criteri dell'arte contemporanea occidentale, ma collocando l'artista nel proprio contesto creativo, senza pregiudizi. Allora è necessario guardare ai movimenti artistici e ai contesti che li hanno portati a fare scelte creative. A volte gli occidentali comprendono e apprezzano queste scelte perché vicine a quelle dei creatori europei, a volte le rifiutano perché non corrispondono in alcun modo alle immagini abituali diffuse nelle società occidentali. Questo malinteso porta a giudizi negativi. Per combattere questi pregiudizi, il progetto “Gli extra” sarà presentato da una Fondazione internazionale in un futuro spazio in Italia destinato a pubblicizzare queste creazioni.
Gli Extra présente une collection de peintures réunies par Isabelle Russo durant une vingtaine d'années, en collaboration avec les associations ATB de Turin/Rivarts de Paris/et Balason de Paris.
Les artistes présentés sont issus de pays où les conditions de vie et le contexte politique étaient, et parfois sont, toujours très difficiles : guerre civile ou militaire/dictature/terrorisme. Ils ont été soutenus afin de leur permettre, pour certains de rester dans leur pays malgré le contexte, pour d'autres de développer leurs vies en exil.
Qu'est-ce qui réunit ces artistes dont les expressions sont si différentes, au-delà de leurs origines territoriales "extra"-européennes. Chacun.e d'entre eux a exprimé le même souhait : que leur création ne soit pas regardée selon des critères d'art contemporain occidentaux, mais en replaçant l'artiste dans son propre contexte créatif, sans préjugés. Alors il est nécessaire de se pencher sur les mouvements artistiques et les contextes qui les ont amenés à faire des choix créatifs.
Parfois les occidentaux comprennent et apprécient ces choix car proches de ceux des créateurs européens, parfois ils les rejettent car ils ne correspondent en rien aux images habituelles diffusées dans les sociétés occidentales.
Cette incompréhension conduit à des jugements négatifs. Pour lutter contre ces préjugés, le projet "Gli extra" sera présenté par une Fondation Internationale dans un futur espace en Italie destiné à faire connaître ces créations.
Gli Extra presents a collection of paintings brought together by Isabelle Russo over twenty years, in collaboration with the associations ATB of Turin/Rivarts of Paris/and Balason of Paris. The artists presented come from countries where living conditions and the political context were, and sometimes still are, very difficult: civil or military war/dictatorship/terrorism. They were supported to allow them, for some to remain in their country despite the context, for others to develop their lives in exile.
What brings together these artists whose expressions are so different, beyond their “extra” European territorial origins?
Each of them expressed the same wish: that their creation not be viewed according to Western contemporary art criteria, but by placing the artist in his own creative context, without prejudice. So it is necessary to look at the artistic movements and the contexts that led them to make creative choices. Sometimes Westerners understand and appreciate these choices because they are close to those of European creators, sometimes they reject them because they in no way correspond to the usual images disseminated in Western societies. This misunderstanding leads to negative judgments. To combat these prejudices, the “Gli extra” project will be presented by an International Foundation in a future space in Italy intended to publicize these creations.
